Shino Takeda

Shino Takeda grew up in Kyushu Island in southern Japan, which has a rich history of ceramics and art. Her mother was an avid collector of traditional Japanese ceramics, textiles, and many other crafts and arts, which influenced her visual perspective from a young age.

Most of Takeda’s work is hand-built using the coil method, working with several different clay bodies. Her forms are inspired by her sensations of the natural environment, She responds to taste and color, to the change of seasons, and attempts to capture them in her ceramics.

Takeda is always searching for perfect imperfections and tracing memories, making stories in her work that connect the old to the new, and and herself to others.
