Cait Porter

Cait Porter is interested in how mundane scenes and objects point to the fragility and tensions of daily life. Moments overlooked in the rush of living carry with them the weight of things left unsaid and held in secret. In Porter’s works, objects are silent observers—captive to the unspoken and psychological dimensions of existence. A reflection on a stovetop or a shadow against a wall, for example, contain a story of worry, a past hurt rearing its head, or anxiety visiting in the middle of the night in a brain that won’t turn off. 

Cait Porter is from Austin, Texas and lives and works in Queens, New York. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Marinaro, Bozeman, MT; EFA Project Space, New York, NY;  Space 1026, Philadelphia, PA; Automat Collective, Philadelphia, PA; Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Radical Abacus, Santa Fe, NM; and Page Bond Gallery, Richmond, VA. Porter has participated in residencies at the Catwalk Institute and the Vermont Studio Center. She holds a BA in art from Vassar College and an MFA in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University.
